Why should you make an excursion to Martinique?

Why an excursion to Martinique? the answer is simple: to discover the riches of the sea! Martinique is also known as the island of the flowers and it’s a small paradise on earth of large white sand beaches and coves, its tropical vegetation and its coconut trees, its paradise islands, its strolls between cascades and the Mornes.

It is also known for its turquoise waters and its coral reefs. There’s not a prettier destination to make a submarine dive, embark on a cruise, practice some surfing, take a bath while in a harbour stop, etc.. This is why it’s such a pleasure to have a sea excursion from Fort of France, the island capital, during your stay in Martinique.

During this journey, you will have the chance to admire multicolour fishes, sea turtles, and all the submarine fauna. Aboard a boat, you will also discover magnificent sea beds, the largest coral barrier in North America. By taking this sea excursion you embrace a privileged and magical moment that you must experience at least once in a lifetime during your vacations in Martinique.

Which sea mammals will I have the chance to see in Martinique?

During your nautical excursion you will have the chance to observe whale sharks, martinique dolphins, manatees and sea turtles. You wil also see whales, but when going further offshore. There are about 70 species of sea mammals throughout the world. In Martinique, you may see sea mammals such as the southern right whale, small whales, the Caribbean monk seal, and the Minke whale. Some of these come during the summer for the mating season some others come particularly during winter.

You can also find different fish species, such as the mackerel banks, sardines, and red tuna. All these are faunae living in the water, but you can also observe birds during summer time.

When is the best time of the year to visit Martinique?

There are many times during the year that are good to visit Martinique. Tourists have the choice to visit during their winter holidays, their summer vacation and the national holiday weekends. Each season has its own advantages. The best period to visit Martinique depends on your taste and your budget.  Martinique is a destination that is greatly appreciated during winter months; therefore, the summer months tend to be way less busy.

There is no school during summer months. You will find that hotels, restaurants and other businesses are frequently more expensive during high season, therefore between the 26th of June to the 15th of September. However, the weather in Martinique is better during the summer, even if the island is known generally for having a stormy weather. During the summer the beaches are very busy.

We don’t advice visiting during November and December, months that are normally known for being rainy. We also advice you to visit Martinique in march and April if you are looking for the low season.

To be able to watch dolphins during your boat excursion to Martinique, we advice you to visit Madinina during the months of May and June, and for turtle watching we advice visiting during the months of August and September.

We also recommend you to try to enjoy the many events happening during the high season when you travel to Martinique. You will be able to attend many beach competitions, nautical regattas and other celebrations.

For those tourists with a love for warm weather and sun, and beautiful soft sand beaches and turquoise waters there is only one period to choose from: the high season, during the summer. The months of June, July, August and September are the ideal periods to visit Martinique.

If you have a preference for softer temperatures, but you don’t want to skip enjoying good times at the beach and under the sun, you could choose to visit during April and October, months known for their tropical weather. However, during the months of October and April the weather could be a bit more chilled, being the lowest of the dry season.

There are some precautions you must take when departing for a stroll at the sea

There are many precautions to be taken before taking a sea excursion in Martinique. The first thing to note is you must remember to check that the boat you are boarding is in good condition and that the captain of the boat knows the navigation rules. If you hire the team Dolphin Planet you shouldn’t have a doubt, they meet such criteria. It is also important to remember bringing enough water and food, along with the adequate equipment. Finally, it is essential to find out about the weather conditions before heading to the sea.

Meteorological conditions for a stroll on a boat

To go on a stroll in the sea, you must make sure from the beginning that the meteorological conditions will allow this. It’s better to avoid going in the sea if the winds are too strong or if the sea is too agitated. Also, it’s important to always find out about weather conditions before going on a boat stroll in Martinique.

How to get sun protection during the boat excursion?

The best way to keep a healthy skin is to avoid sun strokes during your boat stroll in Martinique, and to use sunscreen products with a minimum of sun protection filter 30. While you are in the water, use a solar cream that doesn’t need a large quantity applied to cover your body entirely.

Wear light clothes during the hours when the sun is more intense to be able to protect your skin during your journey at the sea and add sunglasses and a hat to your outfit. The best time for an excursion to Martinique would be during the morning, until the start of the afternoon because the sun rays are less strong!

Marine Mammals Charter of Martinique

With 21 species identified, the coasts of Martinique are a privileged habitat for the feeding, reproduction, and migration of marine mammals. The populations residing or passing by represent a headcount and diversity that guarantees a strong probability of sightings and an attraction rich in emotions for spectators.

However, the continuous ever-growing approach of vessels and the wrong treatment of animals represent a real threat to the population of local cetaceans. A charter that specifies the best practices for approaching and sighting of cetaceans in Martinique was thus drafted with the following objectives

  • Ensuring protection for cetaceans and reducing their disturbance
  • Planning to offer quality ecotourism that can be both responsible and spectacular
  • Organising sightings of cetaceans for sea users in a framework of mutual respect

A faire absolument !
